Description

Score big with these fun and flavorful Football Mini Meatloaves. This easy recipe transforms classic mini meatloaves into adorable football shapes, perfect for game day or any football-themed party. Topped with cheesy laces, they’re a guaranteed crowd-pleaser that combines comfort food with festive fun.

Ingredients

Scale
  • lbs ground beef or turkey (85/15 blend recommended)
  • 1 cup plain breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • ¼ cup ketchup
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp onion powder
  • ¾ tsp kosher salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ cup shredded mozzarella or string cheese (for laces)
  • Optional glaze: BBQ sauce or ketchup

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with foil or parchment paper and lightly spray with oil.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the ground meat, breadcrumbs, egg, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Gently mix with your hands until just combined. Avoid over-mixing.
  3. Divide the meat mixture into 6-8 equal portions. Shape each portion into a football oval, tapering the ends slightly. Aim for about ¾ inch thickness. If the mixture sticks, dampen your hands with water.
  4. Arrange the shaped mini meatloaves on the prepared baking sheet, leaving some space between them.
  5. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F and the juices run clear.
  6. Optional glaze: Remove the baking sheet from the oven and brush the tops of the meatloaves with BBQ sauce or ketchup. Return to the oven for another 3-5 minutes to caramelize.
  7. Add the laces: While the meatloaves are still warm, pull the string cheese or mozzarella into thin strips. Arrange them across the top of each meatloaf to resemble football laces. The residual heat will gently melt them into place.
  8. Serve warm.

Notes

  • Mix the meatloaf ingredients gently to prevent a dense texture.
  • If using very lean meat like turkey or chicken, consider adding a tablespoon of olive oil or grated zucchini for extra moisture.
  • For a fun presentation, serve on a green platter to look like a football field and add sour cream ‘yard lines’.
  • These pair well with potato salad, french fries, or coleslaw.
  • Make sure to shape the mini meatloaves to a consistent size for even cooking.
  • The cheese laces melt best while the meatloaves are still warm.
