- 1½ pounds potatoes, thinly sliced
- 1 pound steak (sirloin or similar), cut into bite-sized pieces
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- ½ teaspoon dried thyme or rosemary
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- Chopped fresh parsley or green onions
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Toss sliced potatoes with olive oil, salt, pepper, and paprika until evenly coated.
- Heat a skillet over medium-high heat with a little olive oil. Sear steak pieces for 2–3 minutes per side until just browned. Set aside.
- Melt butter and stir in minced garlic. Cook gently for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Layer half the potatoes in a 9×13-inch baking dish. Add half the steak, drizzle with garlic butter, and sprinkle with cheddar. Repeat layers.
- Cover with foil and bake for 40 minutes. Remove foil and bake another 15–20 minutes until potatoes are fork-tender and cheese is golden.
- Let rest 5–10 minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh herbs if desired.
