Description

Create a restaurant-worthy Smoked Salmon Avocado Toast at home. This recipe combines creamy avocado, tangy cream cheese, silky smoked salmon, and crisp vegetables on toasted bread for a luxurious yet simple brunch or breakfast.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 slices of bread (sourdough, wheat, Italian, or French), 1/2″ thick
  • 1 large avocado, mashed
  • 1/4 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 cup cream cheese
  • 1/4 cup sliced tomatoes (approx. 8 slices, 1/8″ thick)
  • 1/4 cup sliced cucumber (approx. 8 slices, 1/8″ thick)
  • 2 ounces smoked salmon or lox
  • 2 tablespoons red onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 tablespoon capers
  • 2 teaspoons fresh dill leaves

Instructions

  1. Toast the bread slices until golden and crisp. For extra flavor, you can rub the warm toast with a garlic clove.
  2. In a small bowl, mash the avocado with lemon juice, salt, and pepper. Adjust seasoning to your taste.
  3. Spread 2 tablespoons of cream cheese evenly on each slice of toast.
  4. Gently spread the mashed avocado mixture over the cream cheese layer on each toast.
  5. Arrange the sliced tomatoes and cucumber evenly on top of the avocado.
  6. Drape the smoked salmon slices over the vegetables.
  7. Scatter the thinly sliced red onions and capers over the salmon.
  8. Finish by sprinkling fresh dill leaves over the entire toast.
  9. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • For crispier toast, ensure it’s toasted thoroughly and assemble just before serving.
  • To prevent avocado browning, add lemon juice and press plastic wrap directly onto the surface if storing leftovers.
  • Soaking red onion slices in ice water or a quick pickle in vinegar for 10-15 minutes can mellow their sharpness.
  • Variations include adding jalapeño slices, sriracha, microgreens, everything bagel seasoning, or a soft-boiled/poached egg.
