- 3 tablespoons meringue powder (for royal icing)
- 6 tablespoons water (adjust for desired consistency)
- Food coloring (optional)
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
- In a separate bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until the mixture is light and fluffy.
- Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined.
- Gradually add the flour mixture to the creamed butter and sugar, mixing until just combined.
- Divide the dough into two discs, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) about 10 minutes before you’re ready to bake.
- On a lightly floured surface, roll out one disc of dough to about ¼ inch thickness.
- Use cookie cutters to cut out shapes and place them on ungreased baking sheets, leaving space between each cookie.
